The Morning Person film project is a series of two minute videos crafted to document the early morning routines of people waking up and preparing to take on the world!
The two minute shorts will be posted to social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Here’s what to expect as a participant:
If you’re interested in taking part in the project, email morningperson250@gmail.com with your name, age and occupation (or just however you spend your days).
John will contact you by phone to discuss the details of your usual morning routine.
When you have a day off, or a morning with a little extra time, John will arrive and begin the shoot. Once filming begins, you can just go about your regular morning like he’s not even there! At first, it may feel strange to go through your morning on camera, but you’ll get used to it in no time.
The final step of the process is a short interview with John. He’ll record you answering questions like: “What is it that motivates you to wake up in the morning?” “How do you prepare to take on the world every day?” “What is it you want to achieve before returning home tonight?” This is a great time to tell the world who you are and what’s important to you in your life.
Remember, there are no wrong answers to these questions! And John absolutely will not use any of the footage to embarrass you or show you in a negative light.
The purpose of the Morning Person film project is to inspire! So much of our social media landscape can be negative and highlight our differences. The video you and John create is meant to show the world we’re all alike in so many of our hopes and aspirations... oh yeah, and don’t forget, the most important part about taking part in this project is to have fun!!
FAQ:
Will I get paid for being a subject of a Morning Person video?
Yes, each singular subject will receive $100 as a thanks for participating in the project.
I want to be a subject of the film but my family members (or roommates) don’t. Is that a problem?
As the subject of the video, the camera will remain on you the entire time. Children and partners may appear briefly in the background, but only if they’re interested in taking part in the project as well. If you have pets, on the other hand, they may get some serious camera time!
Can I see the video before it’s uploaded to social media sites?
Yes! Again, the purpose of the project is to have fun, so if there’s something shown in the video that you’d rather not share with the world, it can either be tweaked in the edit room or removed altogether.
Who is the filmmaker?
John Mitchell, a writer and filmmaker based in Brooklyn, will be the only person shooting and editing the footage. He holds an MFA in dramatic writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. His feature length film “The History of Future Folk” was named by indieWIRE as one of the Top 5 feature film debuts of the year and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. A New York Times Critics’ Pick with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93% Certified Fresh, the movie hit #2 on the iTunes sci-fi charts and was renewed by Netflix three times. Mitchell also wrote and directed multiple short films including “Goodnight Bill” (Academy Award finalist) and “Super Powers” (Best Short Film, Tribeca Film Festival).
